how to buy a musky (muskie) rod?

i use top water cranks spinners jerks just about all kind of lures how do you know what size rod you should get and stuff like that

Im not a big musky guy but do a lot of fishing and can give you some advice.

The musky are of course a big hard fighting fish so you want a decently big and durable setup. I dont know if you like spincast or baitcast reels but a baitcaster will probably be the smarter bet. You'll need a rod/reel that will at LEAST hold 20 pound line. I prefer the baitcasters over the spincast reels for larger fish because they'll generally handle heavy pound line better than the spincasts.

As for your rod you'll want medium/heavy action or a heavy action. It'll give you better and stronger hook sets and will be able to handle these big fish. Ive had catfish snap a medium action rod like nothing and the muskies are much more eratic in the water than a catfish so if it were me id get a heavy action. A 6'5-7'0 rod will be a good length.

Dry fly angling is at the top of any fly fisherman's list of fun

fishing. The visual dry fly catch continues to excite many

anglers as the best way to angle the fly. Many anglers try to

keep themselves busy with various fly tying techniques as well as

nymphing techniques. We will discuss several of those techniques

below, but for now we will start with dry fly techniques.

To watch the fly drift free, then the flash of a trout, followed

by your Fly Rod bend - thid is what most of us are after. To

experience it, fly fishermen will go to measures beyond most

other fishermen. I would say that 30% of Fly Fishing angling time

is spent fishing a dry fly. My favorite fly fishing memories have

included big fish taken on a dry fly. Sure, dredging a nymph and

hooking an old Brown or a huge River Rainbow is satisfying, but

I'll take a brookie on a dry fly, at any size, on any day.

When I go to a stream, new or old, I put on a nymph first. There

are exceptions (fish rising everywhere to an obvious hatch) that

make me poke around in my compartment box, but the indicator and

nymph are my first choice. I can catch fish while I am observing

what is going on in the stream. When I have things figured out,

then I go to the dry fly. This is where I have the most fun.

Equipment is important! Try to use as long a fly rod as you can

get away with. Some anglers use a 5'6" fly rod for dry fly

fishing, but generally, a longer rod eight feet or longer is

desirable. A medium action or faster is desirable to have the

reaction and hook setting speed that dry fly angling sometimes

takes.

It is also best to use large arbor reels. A large arbor keeps a

Fly Line supple, without curls from a tight diameter storage. A

fine drag system, or none at all, in important to protect the

fine tippet from breaking when a fish runs. A fly rod must also

balance. The reel weight must make the fly rod at the point where

your index finger rests on the cork grip "balance." That would be

where the fly rod hangs level on the balance of your index finger

on the cork. This makes the feel of the cast second nature. You

will get to a level where casting becomes second nature, you will

feel the fly trailing on your leader, the rod tip bending, and

the fly line loop during your cast like you feel the tracking of

your wheels on the highway while you are driving.

Understanding these important aspects of fly fishing is not

difficult, it just takes some experience. You will soon get to a

point where you understand each and every aspect of your

equipment and fishing technique in focused detail. Especially if

you continue to go after trout with a fly rod, particularly a dry

fly rod. Just remember to balance your equipment. You will see

the merit of that as you fish!

Fly line choices come into play when thinking about dry fly

equipment. I like fly line colors in gray, green or white. Colors

other than this are used to catch fishermen at the fly shop

counter. At fly line weights less than 4-weights, double tapers

or weight forwards, you will find you will have a very hard time

telling the difference. A double taper will last twice as long

because you can turn the fly line around when it is worn. But I

seem to gravitate toward a weight forward. If you like to "shoot"

casts, the weight forward seems to work better.

If you want, you can experiment with mini shooting heads and

Custom Made lines for your dry fly fishing pursuits. Loop offers

many different fly lines available for experimentation.

Leaders are an important aspect of dry fly fishing. Many anglers

like to use Rio leaders, which are very supple, yet the butt

through midsection is stiff enough to make the leader straighten,

or "turn over." For small streams, a 9 foot leader in 6x is

perfect. If you need to step down to 7x, a length of tippet can

be added.

Preserving unplanted young trees until Spring?

I received 10 tree saplings in the mail from the Arbor Day Foundation. The trees arrived without soil. The ground is frozen so I cannot plant nor preserve outside (instructions suggested that a small trench be dug, lay tree roots in trench with trees laying flat on the ground, cover roots and keep moist until Spring) for later planting. How should I attempt to keep them alive until Spring? Can they be placed in a large vase with water covering roots? Should I wrap roots in wet paper/towell and keep in dark room? Any suggestions?

Well, you want to keep the roots consistently damp, trying not to let them dry out or stay too wet. Putting them in a vase with water will probably keep them too wet and wrapped in moist paper towels could allow some roots to get too dry. I'd by a small amount of peat moss (you can get that from a big box store like Lowe's or Home Depot), place the roots in a garbage bag and wrap the bag around the roots (roots only, not any part of the tree that is not root) with a fair amount of moistened peat moss surrounding all the roots. Wrap the garbage bag around these roots covered by peat moss fairly snugly and find as cool, dark a location as you can find to store them this way. After a month or so, you may want to unwrap them to make sure they aren't too wet or dry and make the necessary adjustments. This is how many bare rooted trees are kept in the industry and should do just fine for you until you are ready to plant. I would plant as soon as you can. You really don't want these plants fully leafing out before you get them in the ground, if at all possible. Good luck!

You cannot keep your bicycle away from rust unless you stop riding it completely. At the same time, there is no guarantee that if you stop using the bike it will not get rusted. And just to add to this ridiculous thought, there is no point in buying a bike if you do not use it in fear of rusts.

The situation is normal and simple - your bike will often develop rust and you would need to remove rusts as frequently as possible. And if you live in a moist or salty condition, you would need to follow the process more often.

However, if you like your bike and want it to offer you great service for a long period, you must keep it clean as often as possible. Now, how much cleaning is needed, depends on the metal. For example, if your bike has aluminum or titanium in the frames, it requires much less care than a steel frame. And at the same time steel is considered to be the best frame metal for a bicycle. And if you are suing steel frame in your bike, it requires some cleaning and care often. And there is no alternative to keeping your bike rust free other than regular cleaning.

People often make a great mistake in case of a new bike. They think that as the bike is quite new, it does not require much care. But in reality, once your bike starts getting rust, it will keep coming back. And thus the best solution is clean it up and keep it almost new for longer period.

How to clean your bike?

It depends on how much time you have to clean the bike. The best way is to wipe the bike clean with soft cotton after every ride. You may like to use some liquid cleaner (you can easily find some multipurpose organic rust removers in the market) to easily clean the bike. The process will not take you more than five minutes but keep your bike rust free for long.

Apart from regular cleaning you must reserve some time once in every six months to thoroughly clean the bike. This is important if you are a regular biker. However, if you are regularly cleaning your bike, the process will not take you long.

In this process, you would need to remove all the parts of the bike for a proper cleaning. For example, you would need to remove seat post, bottom bracket and cranks; if necessary, you may also remove the forks.

Now you would need to clean these parts separately with rust removers or WD-40. If you have already bought some liquid rust cleaner for regular use, you can use that for rust treatment and to clean the interior of your bike's frame. In the mean time, dip the chain in the rust cleaner to clean it properly.

When things are cleaned properly, you would need to wipe them dry and oil every part with lubricant or grease before reinstalling. Most of the seasoned bikers do not use or advice WD-40 to lubricate bike parts - especially the chain. You can easily find some chain lubricants in a nearby store to use in the chains.

In the process try to fix other problems in the bike like fixing the break pads, replacing spokes and other necessary things that need immediate care.

Now reinstall all the parts and start riding to your heart' content.

I have a 21'' road bike frame and I want to buy wheels but I don't know which size would fit well.

700c or 27" would be standard size wheels for that size frame. I would go with the 700c. Tires are more readily available in that size. Head over to your local bike shop and they can fix you up.

Fishing is quite a popular sport nowadays and is easy for almost any age and gender to get involved with. At first, fishing is in all probability experienced just by standing or sitting on the shore and casting in the baited line and waiting for a bite from a fish. Sonar is great for fishing vessels because it helps to detect ledges and dropoffs in the water. This allows anglers to know bottom looks like and if there are any areas where fish generally hide.

Another great fishing vessel part is a GPS system. Many anglers know where they are going with a boat. However, if this is not the case, a GPS system is perfect. Even for those anglers who are certain they know where they are, a GPS system allows them to explore more of the body of water and mark where they fish rather than just taking chance that they can find the spot again. The GPS tracks location and allows anglers to know exactly where they are. They have with either internal or external antennas.

Another great fishing vessel part is a depth detector. Certain fish tend to only stay at certain depths. Many fisherman know which species stay in which depth and they can find those spots if they have a depth detector.

The great part about all these fishing vessel parts is that they all can mount on the boat and be used easily - almost effortlessly. In fact, they work great in conjunction with one another. Two or more of these fishing vessel parts can be used together in order to help track locations and find fish. What angler would want these enhancements on any fishing boat?

We are planning a san diego trip next year and this is the first time my hubby has seen the ocean and wants to go fishing in the ocean...and I was just wondering do we need a fishing licence to go finishing in san diego? And are there places that will take us out in the ocean to go fishing? If so, whats the name and how much does it cost, for how long?

Yup', you'll need one. Ya' can get a non-resident type (link) and they can be either for 1, 2 or 10 days. As for taking a Charter boat out, just search Yahoo and or Google for, Sport Fishing Charter Boat Service/San Deigo, CA.,. You'll be able ta' find out what their fees are, location, boat schedules, species of fish you'd be fishin' for etc., etc.. To get something better, you might start with a good alloy frame and if you can afford it, carbon forks, then with what money you have left chose your group-set of either Campagnolo or Shimano, and then you can pick your handlebars, saddle, wheel rims and tires, this is very funny, however if you are working to a budget, it can be tricky.

Bicycles For Touring And Possibly Racing Mid Level Riders

You can buy a complete bike in this category, in the bikes store, sports shop or even in the specialist magazines or on the Internet. It is more fun to choose the components for your frame and how much you want to spend. At this level you would probably be looking at Campagnolo Centaur or probably Shimano 105 road bike parts and you could possibly buy some built up wheels from Mavic, Shimano or Campagnolo. But you should think firs on the frame, there are many frames out there to choose from, get on the web and find what you want, it will probably be alloy again, with carbon forks. Alloy seat pin, handlebars and stem and a comfortable saddle.

Bike For Racing And Pleasure Designed For Top Level Riders

At this range of bikes it gets more difficult. Probably your components would be Shimano Ultegra or Campagnolo Chorus, unless you can afford the top components of both manufacturers. Wheels will be probably Shimano, Mavic or Campagnolo, deep carbon rims look fantastic and have a smooth ride, but will probably be too expensive, best if you stick to alloy rims for high pressure tires as tubulars, even though they ride wonderfully, will be expensive and a lot of trouble. Handle bars, stem and seat pin could be alloy or carbon, if you have the money. The frame is the heart of your bike and you will want a good one, at this price range alloy is going to be the first choice with carbon forks and possibly a carbon rear triangle. If you look around you might manage to find an all carbon frame at this price, Giant make a very well priced carbon frame in a compact, sloping design, there are others but you will have to spend a lot more money.

Pro Bikes For Pro Level Riders.

When're looking at a lot of money here if you want to buy a professional road bike. The frame will be all carbon or titanium with carbon forks and maybe a carbon rear triangle or alloy main tubes with carbon front or rear end. The nicest ones on the market at the moment, in my opinion, are Colnago, De Rosa, Pinarello, Battaglin, Time, Scott, Cervelo and many more, all are available in different colours, geometries and sizes, check out there web sites for information and try to make your choice, it's a difficult job. This is a professional road bike so it will have to have the best components, Shimano Dura.Ace or Campagnolo Record are your only choice at this level. Same with the wheels, Dura-Ace or Campagnolo Bora, these can be for high pressure clincher tires or tubulars, tubulars are more trouble but do ride well, but clincher tires are very nearly as nice and much more practical. Handle bars, stem and seat pin will be carbon and your saddle will have a carbon base with a leather cover and sometimes with gel for a little extra comfort.

The Best Bicycle You Can Afford.

That's true "You do only get what you pay for, so get the best bike you can afford". A good idea might be look around the magazines and the internet manufacturers' sites and don't forget your local bike shop until you get that little treasure, but be careful not to make your partner too jealous!

Can I use a Campagnolo crank with SRAM Red chain and Rear Derailleur?

My bike is complete with SRAM Red components. I want to replace the SRAM Red crank with a Campagnolo Record crank because of crank arm length differences. Are the teeth on the Campy Record chain rings compatible with the SRAM chain? Any input is appreciated.

They should be roughly compatible. I'm not a mechanic so I can't say for sure. Typically chains made by different companies and for different drivetrains vary in their width but the space between rollers should be the same. If you're comfortable doing your own wrench work I'd try the swap and ride a little and listen while you do. Everything should be smooth and quiet and the shifts should be smooth.

I will say that nowdays, Shimano, SRAM, and Campy make their parts specifically to work together as a whole unit. They really don't want people mixing and matching among manufacturers.

I'm sure it would be cheaper for you to put the Campy crank on since you already have it rather than buy a new SRAM one. I say give it a try.

Let me tell you girls, that's just what I said.  How am I going to find a sexy costume in a PLUS SIZE that will make all the men want me at the company party?  I wanted them to drool over me.  Or at least compliment me on my sexy costume.  That would make my day.  Hell, my month.

Maybe I should tell you my story.  I have always been the - let's say - "curvy" kind of woman.  Pretty (I've been told), but "curvy".  You know, kind of like the girl in the television show - "Drop Dead Diva."  I've tried pretty much every diet that has ever been sold, but I was unable to lose the weight.  And fit into a sexy PLUS SIZE costume?  As the boys in Jersey say - "Forget About It!"

Every year I was invited to all these great costume parties - especially at Halloween.  I would go to all these costume stores and see these women laughing and having fun trying on all these sexy costumes.  What an exciting time.  Except, when I would get to the rack, there was nothing in a PLUS SIZE.  Or if there was,THE SELECTION WAS LIMITED.  What was I going to do?  I definitely wasn't going to make a homemade costume.

I think the story I'm telling is shared by many women.  I know I'm not alone in this.

Well, this year I have not only been invited to a Halloween party, but a masquerade party too! A masquerade party? Aren't those only in movies? Anyway, now I needed two costumes. What if some of the same people are at both parties? I had my reputation to think about!

Like every year, I hit the pavement for the perfect thing to wear. Not only was I nervous about even finding a sexy costume, but I didn't even know what type of costume I wanted to wear. I knew one thing, it had to be sexy. I was thinking maybe a Cleopatra or a french maid costume.. There is always the sexy vixen pirate wench costume. Then again, I was thinking a police woman costume may be great, or the ever popular nympho nurse costume. The options were endless. At least in my mind.

This year I didn't want my feet to be tired and my ego bruised, as in years before. That's when it occurred to me to check out the internet. Duh! But, I had never shopped over the internet. Long story short, I went to my computer and was so excited to find a whole world of plus size costumes. The selections were endless it seemed. I even found a sexy naughty costume for the after party. 11. butter (if bring butter stick can roll corn-on-cob on top of it)

Remember when camping where there are bears do not to have ANY nice/sweet smelling products (lip balm, baby lotion, deodorant, toothpaste...) or food in your tent. There should be bear lockers to keep your food in. If not keep items in sealed coolers in car, away from tent. The last time I went camping a bear broke the window of a truck to get the candy bar and tooth paste left in the front seat.

How do I load a Pontiac Montana Mini Van with a lot of stuff for camping?

I'm going camping for 3 or 4 days, and we need to bring a lot of stuff. I want to have room for my bike, so I want to have the car with a lot of room. were bringing things like pots and pans, lanterns, flashlights, clothes, silver wear, food, towels, etc. So does anyone know an effective way to pack a Pontiac Montana Mini Van?

Try and cut down on stuff. Silverware?? you can get little fold up things with a kinfe fork and spoon the size of a swiss army knife theres plenty of things you can down size on. If thats not enought you need to just push really hard and close the door and itll all fall out when you get there. YOu can also pull the seats. or should be able to I have a montana and its great for lots of stuff.
