With flight regulations and laws becoming ever more restrictive, airsoft enthusiasts may find themselves in a bit of trouble if they are not well-informed when they arrive at the airport. Taking airsoft shotguns on a plane without preparation seems like a good way to get oneself shot at by an air marshal. So to keep airsoft practitioners out of the (real) line of fire, it is important to be familiar with all current air travel laws and regulations.

There are two main organizations or governmental bodies that establish flight rules - the TSA and the FAA. The TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, is made up of security officers, inspectors, directors, air marshals and managers who protect the nation's transportation systems so you and your family can travel safely. They're the guys at the metal detectors and scanners in the airport asking you to take your shoes off and checking for guns and bombs. They're also the guys who will take you down if they find a weapon in your carry-on.

The most important thing to know when traveling by plane is that all guns are treated equally - airsoft guns, real guns, and even paintball guns are treated with the same level of severity and security.

Current regulations state that all arms (this includes all airsoft equipment) can be taken onboard the airplane, but must be packed in your checked luggage. That means you cannot have any guns, airsoft pellets, canisters or anything else in your carry-on luggage. Storing these items in luggage that you intend to carry onto the plane and have access to throughout the flight will result in some pretty unpleasant face-time with the TSA agents. Not to mention the risk of missing your flight!

It is also necessary to declare your gun (airsoft or otherwise) at the ticketing counter as any undeclared arms that are found in checked baggage will be considered a threat and may result in damage to your luggage or at worst, your arrest. Stored weapons that will be dispatched in checked luggage will be identified by specific tags on the bag or suitcase.

Additionally, pump and spring airsoft shotguns must be dismantled before being packed away in your luggage and all CO2 canisters must be emptied and detached from the gun. To check whether your gun is allowed onboard the plane, check the TSA site and be sure to talk to your carrier as each airline has their own rules.

If you think crime is something that only happens to other people you are a few sandwiches short of a picnic. The other guy, the mook, is thinking exactly the same thing, and in his mook brain, YOU are the other guy.

In this country there is a violent assault every 29 seconds. That's two per minute, 60 per hour, 1,440 day, and 525,600 per year. That's assault only. That's not assault and battery, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, sexual assault, assault on a child, and I could go on and on and on.

Today there are as many categories of crime as there are crimes. You really need an advanced degree in statistics just to read some of the BS contained in crime reports.

If you see an announcement that violent crime has dropped 9%, you better believe that some of that crime is in another category, one that didn't exist in the last report.

It's unfortunate, but many top cops are master bureaucrats, and not too good at real police work.

Let's get something straight right now.

That old adage about the police protecting you is simply not true anymore. It hasn't been true for decades, but the police would like you to believe it.

For the last few years I have been helping people protect themselves. I am not against guns or gun ownership, but I think that most self defense can be done without resorting to guns. I said most, not all.

Pepper Spray is one of the best methods of self defense, and today it comes in all shapes, and sizes.

There are a couple of primary reasons for its continuing popularity with both men and women.

It's easy to use, and it is very, very effective.

Most Pepper Spray is Oleoresin Capsicum, or OC,

which comes from good old cayenne pepper.Newer, hotter pepper sprays come from habernero pepper. The older types are 10% solutions. The newer, hotter types are 18% solutions.

The old versions are still quite effective, and believe me, you wouldn't want to get hit with one. The new ones are super hot, and have a little more range.

When you spray an assailant, or attacker, he will first experience shortness of breath, and then get temporary blindness from excessive tearing. The assailant will do a lot of wheezing and hacking, and when he's not doing that, he'll be screaming in pain. He will feel like he is right next to the sun and melting.

The effects are only temporary, and there is no permanent damage, except that the mook will have a lifelong fear of getting sprayed again.

One burst of pepper spray will usually stop a 250 pound man in seconds. Two sprays will flatten anybody bigger than that.

The newest innovation in pepper spray is larger containers with different grips. A new version called Wildfire has a 9 ounce pistol grip that contains enough OC to take out a pack of mooks, and then some.

Newer versions can also fire up to 18 feet, and some contain dyes that can mark an assailant for easy identification.

You can get pepper spray pens, rings, and pepper spray disguised as lipstick. There are .5 ounce sizes, 1 ounce, 1.5 ounce, 4 ounce, and the new super 9 ounce, and colossal 16 ounce. There are sprays, and foggers. They are all very, very effective.

With all different sizes you can keep one just about anywhere.

Here is what I recommend.

1) One on your keychain.

2) One on your car visor.

3) One under your car seat,or in a cup

holder.

These can be the .5 ounce to 1.5 ounce.

4) One around your front and back door

These can be 1.5 ounce to 4 ounce.

5) One in the garage

Again, 1.5 ounce to 4 ounce.

If you have a cash business, like a convenience store, restaurant, bar, or liquor store, the pistol grip 9 ounce and 16 ounce are probably your ticket.

I think everyone should carry, but especially if you are a woman, you work late at night, you work in a crime plagued area, you are in a sales or delivery position, or you live alone.

You can buy a barrel of protection for less than $75 dollars, and even with the new, much larger sizes for around $125 dollars. At $125 dollars, thats about 33 cents a day. That's less than half the cost of a small coffee. Way less if you go to Starbucks.

Don't find yourself alone, anywhere, confronted by a mook, with no protection.

Not when it's so easy to defend yourself.

Night vision binoculars allow you to see at night but how do they really work?

Generally the night-vision binoculars of first generation are used by the city dwellers. These are less expensive are easily affordable. They have the power to amplify existing light by an aspect of 1,000. These can be used when there is bright stars and a full moon covers up the sky in the night.

oSecond generation:

This generation night-vision binoculars work well when there is a crescent moon. These are generally used by the law enforcement agencies. They are quite expensive as compared to the first generation binoculars but the images they provide to your eyes are brighter, sharper and even clearer as compared to the first generation night-vision gear

oThird generation and fourth generation:

Night-vision binoculars of third generation and fourth generation are used during dark and cloudy nights when the intensity of the light available is very low and weak. They are very expensive and hence are not affordable by common people. But the images they provide are much clearer and sharper as compared to all binoculars of previous generations.

How to buy the right Night-vision binoculars?

With plenty of options available in the market it is very confusing to choose the right one for yourself. There are simple binoculars for children with which they can have some fun and even some very sophisticated and classy ones, which are good for night navigation or surveillance. So, following are some tips to help you select the right one for you.

1.The first and the foremost thing you should decide prior to buying any night vision equipment is its purpose. Night-vision binoculars and scopes are used for various purposes for instance, scouting games, exploring caves, camping, surveillance and security, wildlife observation, nighttime navigation, night hunting and night boating and fishing.

Toss Game

Toss games are one of the most popular yard games in North America that people play to whittle away the lazy afternoons. It is a much better option than watching TV or playing cards or chess. Of course that is not to say that card games or board games have no virtue at all or that watching TV is a waste of time. However, none of them will give you the exercise we all so badly need.

Today a large percentage of the North American population is overweight thanks to the inactive lifestyle they lead and carbohydrate rich diet that they eat. Most of them will not undertake any regular exercise regime. However, these people may be tempted to play toss games, which will give them some exercise at least. It will also prevent them from gorging on the junk food that they usually consume while watching TV.

However, toss games are not an alternative to the trip to the gym, but it does provide an opportunity for exercising our limbs. With all weather corn toss game, there is no excuse to stay hooked to the television set any more. You can play it indoors also, that is if you can make enough space. Nonetheless, you will have to forgo the wind and the sun, the flowers and the birds, the snow and the drizzle if you play indoors.

Playing toss games outdoor has a charm of its own. Now that you need not be afraid of the corn bags getting soaked or the board getting wet, you can play in all weather condition. Generally, the corn toss boards are made of plywood, which may become swollen and spoils, if it is exposed to water or even to water vapor for a long time. All weather corn-toss game boards are generally made of plastics and therefore you have nothing to fear on this account.

Under normal circumstances, corn-toss bags also need to be protected from weather elements because such bags are made from duck canvas and are filled with feed corn. Feed corn is very susceptible to mildew and hence become easily spoil. If the bag gets wet, you need to take out the corns, have them dried and then refill the bags before stitching it up once again. Otherwise, the mildew will get at the corns and will turn them into dust. The all weather corn toss game bags with their weatherproof cloth instead of duck canvas and plastic palettes instead of feed corn face no such hazards. You can get them as wet as you wish, drying them is no problem at all.

A corn toss game is for every body. It is for the aged as it for the children. There is no age bar. Anybody old enough to understand the rules of the games can play it. It is not that the rules are very complicated. Two corn hole boards are set 33' or 10m apart. There are two types of boards:

Regulation boards - ACA approved boards measure 4' x 2' or 1.2m x 0.6m. Most of the all-weather boards stick to such measurements. Tailgating boards - Such boards are not approved by ACA, but are made smaller so that they can fit in the boot of the car. They measure 3' x 2' or 0.9m x 0.6m.

Each board has a hole and a player is supposed to stand at the opposite end and throw the corn bags into the hole. The player can stand anywhere, but not further than back of or any closer than the front of the opposite board. Each player is allowed to throw four corn hole bags. He must not take more than 20 seconds to throw a bag. His time starts the moment he steps into the pitching area. A bag that falls inside the hole is worth three points and the bag that lands on the board, but does not fall in the hole is worth one point. The match is played until a player or team reaches 21. Incidentally, a corn toss game can be played in singles as well as in doubles.

As I said, if a bag falls in the hole the team or the individual scores three points. It does not matter how the bags fall inside the hole. The bag can be directly tossed into the hole or it can slide into one. It can even be pushed into the hole by another bag thrown by the opposite team. It adds to the fun element and that is why you need two sets bags of two distinct colors to represent the two team or individual. Buy a corn toss game set to enjoy your leisure fruitfully.

Head Lamp

Halloween is just around the corner! It's time for fun and festivities... without all of the gift buying, wrapping and holiday baking that so many other holidays bring. That leaves time for decorating and being with friends.

There are a few Halloween gatherings with friends that my family and I look forward to each year. The first is always a few days before Halloween...one of our friends has a family pumpkin carving party. She sets up tables on her patio and everyone brings their own pumpkin and their favorite carving tools. We all also bring food to share. She has a pot of hot apple cider and the fun (and sometimes competition) begins. It's a great way to kick of the holiday.

Then on Halloween itself, now that our kids are all older and go trick or treating without an adult, we go to the house of the friend who lives in the busiest neighborhood. (My oldest child stays home to hand out candy at our house.) The parents all have wine and hors d'oeuvres while kids come to the door. We all go to the door to ooh and ahh over the really cute costumes. Then our kids come back and trade candy while the grownups try to get a few pieces of their favorite types.

Unlike the way we approach getting our home ready for other holidays, for Halloween we concentrate our decorating efforts on the outside of the house. After all...most of our guests are the trick or treaters, so we want them to know that ours is a house that is ready for visitors. Of course, we always have our carved pumpkins, but we put out other decorations too. We put out a hay bale with mums and gourds on it. We put out some orange mini-lights and even some of our clear twinkle Christmas lights.

Sometimes we put home made fabric ghosts on the trees. We put a large plastic pumpkin head over the lamp on our lamp post by the street, so it glows when the light is on, and we put a Halloween mail box cover on our mail box. We try to pay special attention to the mailbox and lamp post area, as our front door is fairly far from the street. We want to be sure people see that our home is ready for Halloween visitors, so the mailbox cover and lamp post decoration are especially important.

Velocity Deep

Quietly, like a maiden sneaking through the woods to meet her lover, I lifted my skirts to tip toe over twigs and stones following an unmarked path. I gingerly jumped over brooks and streams to stay mostly dry. Coming to the edge of my forest again, I was suddenly disoriented and high above my usual perch, looking out over the familiar pool of crystal clear turquoise water.

"How did I get up here?" I wondered, looking down a bit nervously as somewhere inside me I knew I'd come here to dive and this height was way beyond my comfort zone. Then his voice sliced easily through my memory, its tone and the words he spoke, seeping into my head. "No thinking; no projecting."

"Okay." I said, "okay, I hear you."

And without hesitation, I dove, like a swan face upward toward the heavens, arms spread, breast bone pulling the rest of my body out into the middle of space above the pool. In no time at all, I glided out to a place where I tilted my wings and rolled my body slightly left. Naturally, automatically, my feathers folded and lay along side this body; the velocity increased, parting the surface waters with every nearing inch. I spiraled head first into the pool, and once under the protection of the water and cradled in its warmth, I became a dolphin undulating and weaving between the rays of sunshine that penetrated its depths.

Upward again to the surface, nose first, standing on my tail, I launched into the air. I wanted to flip, yet my fins became arms as I reached for the sky and I floated untethered for a while. Again, no time passed as I hung in the ethers, my fingertips feeling for raindrops inside the clouds. The white gown I wore fluttered in the wind like a sail in mid tack. I was light and full simultaneously, consumed by amazement and joy. My eyes had softened and relaxed, deepening back into my brain. I floated there, just trusting, looking at the edges of the rocky beach surrounding the turquoise pool. There were hundreds of people there circling the rim, applauding my dance!

In a breath, I was walking down a tree-lined path with my Indian friend. He held my elbow as though I needed a crutch and I kept looking over my shoulder to see where I'd come from. "Was it real? Did I really dance in the water, fly through the air? Was I there, or not; and was I truly so free?" I wondered this all to myself, though my Indian friend answered.

"You've been a Queen," he said, "yet here, you feel the energetic weight and the awkward, crumbling bones of a crone. Never forget though, you can soar inside your soul anytime you like, becoming the maiden once more, or forever, if that's what you desire."

"How trite," I thought, feeling really gypped. "He's mumbling inanities." Unable to contain my frustration, the truth of my disappointment leaked out and I shriveled down, ever more helplessly overwhelmed by the sudden onset of old age. I felt like a china doll crashing to the floor, dropped by a careless child.

So caught up in the shock of it all, I barely noticed when he lifted this old bag of bones up to his heart. I felt like a babe when he kissed my forehead and threw me out as though returning a bird of prey to the airwaves, freeing my mind yet again. I flapped once and then flew. Wind washed my face and the sun's warmth penetrated spaces between the bones of my feathers.

Quickly passing familiar landmarks, staring down at the crystal clear turquoise pool, I noticed how tiny even my dream world seemed from here. Ranging higher and further, rising fast on an endless thermal, the Earth's whole blue-green body came into view and then faded away. It was a black dot, then a pinpoint, soon disappearing completely as I caught my next ride on the pulsing currents of the galactic byway.

Deer, in their natural habitat, do not eat "deer feed" that can be purchased at the feed store. So, left to their own devices, what do deer eat?

Deer are herbivores, meaning they only eat plants. While there are plenty of plants in the forest, not all plants provide adequate nutrition for deer.

Much like humans, deer have preferences for certain foods and will eat them whenever and wherever they find them. When these foods are not available they will move on to acceptable foods (less nutrition and less tasty, but still acceptable.) If there is a lot of competition from other deer in the area, even these food sources may become depleted and deer will be forced to eat "foods of last resort;" these are foods that are very low in nutrients, but are better than nothing. Seasonal changes also affect the availability of foods.

Types of Foods That Deer Eat

Wild Grasses

Wild grasses are only eaten when the shoots are you and tender. They are a food of last resort, and help deer survive when deer cannot find other foods.

Woody Plants and Shrubs

Deer can feed on trees and shrubs. The eat the leaves, twigs and buds of these types of plants all year around. Examples:

• honeysuckle
• blackberry
• sassafras
• rose
• dewberry
• grape
• willow
• sumac
• black gum
• greenbrier

Forbs

Forbs are herbaceous plants (perennial, non woody plants that die every winter but produce new growth every spring). Forbs include weeds and other flowering plants. This is a proffered food source. Examples:

• wild clover
• mushrooms
• dandelion
• ragweed
• wild lettuce
• sunflower
• beans
• ragweed
• bellflower
• sedges

Nuts

Very nutritious for deer, but crops of nuts are often small, so this food source is not as reliable as forbs and grasses. Examples:

• red acorns
• white acorns
• beechnuts
• hickory nuts

Cultivated Crops

These are crops that humans plant. These can be an important part of deer diet in areas where other food sources are limited. Examples:

• wheat
• clover
• soybeans
• rye grass
• vegetables
• alfalfa
• oats

Fruits

Very high in energy, deer prefer these foods, but they are usually only available during summer and early fall.

If contemporary voters sometimes lose patience with the dirty tricks politics and "negative campaigning" said to characterize our age, perhaps a look at the way it used to be can offer a bit of perspective. Hard-fought as they may be, the battles these days are confined to verbal thrusts and parries and our politicians have taken a giant step toward civil electioneering when compared to their nineteenth century counterparts.

In those good old days, the record makes clear, threats, beatings and even the occasional murder were included in the campaign arsenals that aspiring public servants unleashed in their efforts to turn out-or turn away-the vote.

In the 1840s and 1850s, it was to one Michael Brennan, the premier "polling place goon" of the day, that many of the strong-arm responsibilities fell. The 200-pound street fighter, described by area history chronicler William Rowley as the "archetype of the Irish bully in Albany," was charged with the task of maintaining the political bosses' version of order on election days. In return, his frequent arrests for non-political brawling resulted in only the mildest punishments, or none at all. Brennan's sanctioned reign of terror ended on November 6, 1855, when he was shot to death by one of his long-suffering victims.

Earlier in the century, too, Albany's growing Irish immigrant community had been involved in election day violence. In the 1830s two "gentlemen" were severely beaten by a "pack of savages" on the steps of "a respectable Broadway business house." The gentlemen were Whigs, part of the conservative power structure, and the savages were Irish Democrats charging interference at the polling place.

But the most notable political violence in Albany history involved not the lower classes struggling for a foothold on the economic and social ladder, but the gentry themselves-and a lot of them.

On April 21, 1807, General Solomon Van Rensselaer, a prominent Federalist, responded promptly and personally to the inflammatory, published rhetoric of the local Republicans, who had passed a resolution questioning Van Rensselaer's honesty. The general proceeded to assault his accuser when he and Republican recording secretary Elisha Jenkins (later an Albany mayor) met on State Street. In turn, and before the day was over, Republican leader John Taylor (who in his long career served as first judge of the Court of Common Pleas, lieutenant governor and acting governor of the state) accosted Van Rensselaer and the two statesmen squared off in downtown Albany.

They were reinforced by scores of partisans and within minutes what was long remembered as "The Battle of State Street" was well under way. Before it ended, writers of the day claimed, about half of the men in Albany had taken part in the vicious hand-to-hand combat that turned the broad street into a mass of brawlers from Pearl Street to Broadway. Among the wounded was Solomon Van Rensselaer, the victim of Jenkins's cane-wielding nephew, Francis Bloodgood (yet another future mayor).

In the aftermath of the battle, a complex series of suits and countersuits resulted in numerous awards for damages from the many assaults committed and injuries sustained.

Ironically, General Van Rensselaer, who had landed the first blow, made a $400 profit in the courts, despite numerous judgments against him, thanks to the nasty gash Bloodgood gave him in the back of his head. Van Rensselaer recovered, and he went on to further prominence as not only a general but a member of Congress and a postmaster. Another Federalist dignitary was not as fortunate, however. William Cooper, the father of author James Fenimore Cooper, was the founder of Cooperstown, and held office as a judge and a congressman. By the time he wound up on the short end of the stick, he was also a veteran of some partisan scuffles in which he had emerged as a winner. A notable instance of that comes from an affidavit among the court records of Otsego County, which details the attempt by his defeated opponent in a congressional election to exact some physical retribution. ". . .the said James Cochran confessed to the said William Cooper these words: 'I acknowledge you are too much of a buffer for me,'" the affidavit reads in part.

That wasn't the case some ten years later, however, when Cooper was set upon by a political opponent outside of Albany's famous Lewis's Tavern. That December 1809 attack, or complications from it, proved fatal. More than a century later, one of Cooper's descendants, another James Fenimore, wrote of the judge's death:

"William Cooper, the runaway Quaker boy, died with his political boots on and in the Federalist cause. He was killed by a blow on the head, struck from behind as he was leaving a political meeting in Albany where he had made a speech in a heated debate. In those days, murder and death in the cause of one's political party, were looked upon as among the fortunes of political warfare. No punishment followed such assaults and no legal investigations were made. His assailant was known to all."

bird bite when i try to take him out of the cage?

Hi i have a quaker parrot that i just got And he bited when i try to take him out of his cage but when i do with a towel after that he is a sweet boy. any idea what to do?
I have an umbrella cockatoo! but she is fine with me and let me take her out and put her in the cage! i also have green cheek conure!! they are fine!!!

when birds bite it usuallly means their scared, try to look less agressive by slowly going in the cage and when hes about to bite lower your hand to make it look like you mean no harm, dont hurt it for disipline, keep giving it love and affection.
