What Is A Laser Boresighter?
A laser boresighter is a device used to help gun owners and users to get their scopes and rifles in unison. A beam of light it sent out from directly inside the barrel to reflect the direct route of the bullet. One type of Laser Bore sighter fits on the end of a barrel and the other mimics an actual cartridge and is put into the rifle's chamber just like an actual bullet.
What Does It Do?
A better question for this part would have been "Why would anyone need it?." People use these devices because they make it very simple to check a scopes accuracy without even having to shoot. By turning the laser on, the operator can look through the scope and see if the center of the crosshairs are lined up perfectly with the center of the beam. This way, there is not a whole lot of confusion when sighting in a gun. If you have ever been through this process, then you know that it can take a whole lot of ammo to get the shots on paper and on target. A laser bore sighter can help people at least get their shots on paper from the start, thus allowing them to fine tune the placements after that. To sum things up, this device helps to narrow down the gun's initial placement so fine adjustments can be made.
Are They Caliber Specific?
It really depends on what model or brand of laser boresighter that you purchase when it comes to caliber specificity. Most of the bore sighters that insert magnetically into the end of a barely are tapered so that they are compatible with many different calibers.

How accurate is using a laser bore sighter on a muzzleloader ?
Just as accurate as the user, although unless you are mounting a scope there is no reason for it.
Just remember that muzzleloaders have different ballistics from CF rifles due to heavier bullets and lower velocities.
