vertical or horizontal belt pouch/holster for iphone?

i want to buy a belt pouch for my iphone cause i hate putting it in my pocket cause all the lint that gets on it. i am not sure whether to get a horizontal or vertical case. i have Never Used one before and therefore dont know which one is better and more comfortable. oh and which one is more secure?? thanks!

I prefer vertical, it may not be as comfortable, but it tends to be more durable if you are into running and exercising.

Blackberry Pearl Holsters........?

I lost the black holster that came with my pearl and I'm thinking about getting some skins, and a new holster. Will the phone recognize the new holster for the "when in holster" setting?
Will it work the same as with the black one? I don't know if the black holster had a special chip or magnet in it for that feature.
Any help is appreciated.

The phone is pretty smart and will recognize pretty much any aftermarket holster you pick. I got one from Bestbuy and its great. Has the magnet leather strap and all. Easy to access and goes to standby when in the holster.

Holster Ruger

After holstering a weapon, there are different ways to keep it secure. This is important to prevent misfiring and loss of weapon control due to rapid movement or struggle with another person. Auto retention is one method of preventing unexpected weapon use.

Design

Once a weapon is holstered an automatic safety lock feature engages. It must be released in order to use the weapon. There are different types of auto retention. They are either released by the thumb, index or middle finger. Some models require drawing the weapon at an angle, while others have a straight-up draw, depending on the manufacturer.

Each weapon has a different type of design and shape, and requires a custom-designed fit. Beretta holsters, for example, will not fit the Glock or Ruger. This ensures a proper holster fit and performance.

Effort

One advantage to auto retention is that the user does not have to physically engage the device. Thumb straps take a conscious effort, while the auto retention feature takes place simply by holstering the gun properly. This is faster and less distracting. Pulling it back out does not require undoing a strap, but merely removing the gun at a specific angle. Some models require special release movements, while others do not. The fewer specifications there are, the faster the draw, which can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.

Purpose

Holsters with auto retention are usually associated with uniformed police or security officers. They are made for different types of uses, such as tactical, duty or concealment. Sports models do not put much emphasis on retention, since the idea is to draw and fire quickly, without concern over someone else taking possession of the firearm.

When carrying a concealed pistol, auto retention is important in preventing the weapon from firing while it is being worn. Injury or panic situations could happen otherwise. Paddle holsters are available in a number of styles. Some of these have adjustable retention hooks which make it easier to vary the withdrawal angle when needed.

Consistency

Different holsters are worn with the same gun in different situations. Those with more or higher retention levels are more secure, but less swift in weapon release. The important thing for the person wearing different types of holsters to remember is which model has which features. When they all have auto retention features, it gives the user peace of mind that the gun will be secure until it is ready to use, and will come out swiftly when needed.

I own a ruger 10/22 and a Ruger Super single Six convertible, both from 1976; see below comments for more.thx?

Both are stamped "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty" on the barrel. They are used, and I love them both very much. I would like to know if anyone out there could place a value on them. I have a Bianchi quick draw holster for the single action six shooter. At the time I paid more for the holster and belt $145, than I did for the pistol that was special ordered from the Ruger factory in 1975 for I still have the original reciept, but can't remember the price, just now. Every Ruger produced in 1976 was marked as such. Unless they are new in the box, you can not expect a significant premium for them. They are not considered a true limited edition (1 of x type).
The condition of the finish and stock/grips are going to set the value more than the stamp on the barrels. Without knowing condition, there is no way to estimate value.
Nice condition 10/22s are going for between $120 and $140 and Single Six Convertibles are going for between $250 and $300 around here.

Before the advent of the C2, civilians were limited to acquiring the 34000 Series Air Taser which is bigger in size and less ergonomic in shape. Then, the M18 Taser became available in the market for civilians as well as the M26 Taser for law enforcement. Both models are bigger and resemble the shape of a Glock 17 semiautomatic 9mm pistol. These are too bulky to be carried concealed; although, they possess higher power ratings of 18 and 26 watts, respectively, compared to the Air Taser which only produces 7 watts.

The C2, however, is small enough to be carried concealed with the shape of a hand phaser from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It shoots 2 probes up to 15 feet; although, the ideal distance to your target should be between 5 to 7 feet. The longer the distance, the higher probability that you might miss a human target even though you are aiming at the center mass, the area of the body below the neck and above the hips. The reason for this is that the top needle from the cartridge shoots out at a straight trajectory while the other needle at the bottom ejects at a slightly lower angle, thereby hitting the target with the probes at a distance from each other. This causes the charge to be distributed through the body further. The cartridge itself, which is disposable after 1 firing, propels the probes with nitrogen, an inert gas. This is why the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) does not classify Tasers as firearms.

Since the producers of the Taser does not disclose the power rating of the C2, I am guessing that its power output is between 7 to 12 watts, enough to approximately incapacitate a human being from 86% to 92% of the time. According to the Smith brothers, the founders of the Taser, the stopping power of the C2 is greater than a typical shot from a .38 or 9mm caliber handgun. This device has a less non-lethal dose of charge than the M18, M26, X26, and X29 Tasers since it produces less power. Nevertheless, the family of Tasers is non-lethal, or "less-than-lethal," type of gadgets as researched and proved by engineers who published their findings to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) magazine about 6 to 9 months ago. Contrary to what "ambulance chaser" lawyers claim, the effects of Tasers alone cannot kill a person. What distinguishes Tasers from stun guns is that the former emits "T-waves" or a charge that has a similar frequency as a human body's nervous system. This effect overwhelms the nervous system, thereby paralyzing the subject for about 2 to 15 minutes. On the contrary, the charge from stun guns overwhelms muscle groups, rendering just a part of the body numb for less amount of time.

C2, as in all Taser models, has its limitations also. First, it is an electronic device which is prone to malfunction. Yet, I have yet to see a malfunctioning Taser. It if works the first time, it should reliably work every time. Second, the probes have to penetrate the skin to be effective. If a human target is wearing more than 2 inches of clothing or is wearing loose clothing, the needles might not contact the skin to work. That scenario happened last year in a booking area where my co-worker used an M26 against a combative female suspect with loose clothing to no effect; she just stood upright while being zapped. Third, you are limited in firepower since you can only install a disposable cartridge one at a time, which might limit your options if you are confronted by multiple opponents. But, you can use any Taser as a stun gun after the cartridge is spent.

Weighing the pros and cons of carrying a C2, it is better to have one than not. The Taser affords you distance between you and the perpetrator especially if he or she is armed. A stun gun would be of little or no use at all in that situation. Additionally, the paralyzing effect is instantaneous, unlike pepper spray which takes several seconds to work. If you cannot lawfully carry a firearm to protect yourself, the C2 is probably the next best thing as long as you have a backup weapon, such as a stun gun, pepper spray, or a knife, just in case it fails. A good rule of thumb dictates to never rely on any equipment to function every single time. For good measure, always have a contingency plan!

How is the safety trigger on a glock as safe as a traditional safety?

I have an airsoft glock, which is the same as a real steel glock except that it fires bbs. I don't understand how the safety trigger can really be as safe as a traditional safety. When I put my glock in my holster I don't feel as safe as when I put my USP in my holster.

The biggest safety on all firearms is you. Keep your finger off the trigger till your ready to shoot. There might not be any manual levers on the Glock but with the trigger system the only way your going to discharge the gun is by squeezing both of the triggers. The gun is going to be as safe as any other if bumped, dropped, etc.

I own a Glock and I still don't know if I like the system. It's OK for me. But I'm still a little worried when I let my girlfriend fire the gun. She's still new with firearms in general.

Is it legal to carry a concealed pistol in NZ if you have a standard firearms licence?

Is it legal to carry a concealed pistol/ a pistol in holster in NZ if you have a standard firearms licence and is a civilian?

You are not allowed to own or possess a pistol with a standard firearms licence in New Zealand. You may own a pistol if you obtain a "B" endorcement on your firearms licence which requires more stringent vetting, complete safety courses, improved security measures, membership to a Pistol New Zealand affiliated pistol club and an annual minimum attendance at a pistol club. The sole reason for getting your "B" endorcement is competition shooting, thus there is no reason to be wearing a pistol in a holster off a sanctioned range.

You may also own a pistol if you hold a "C" endorcement, that for collectors, though you are not to fire them. "C" endorcements maybe applied for collecting, museum staff etc, theatrical (may fire blanks when movie making etc) purposes. Basically the same more stringent background checks, referees, interviews with police representatives and security measures required of a "B" endorced individual apply for "C" endorcement applicants.

Holders of a "D" or dealers endorcement may also own pistols.

Legally you may only transport a pistol to a range/gunsmith/gun shop etc, and it must be in a stout lockable container. Away trips to competitions and the like require a permit to carry obtained from your local Arms Officer.

What's the best way to conceal a Colt Commander?

I am awaiting the arrival of my handgun carry permit and am trying to decide the best way to carry my Colt Commander 4 1/4" barrel 1911. I'm leaning toward an inside the pants holster, but am open to any other suggestions. I'm mainly a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy, so what would be my best options for this kind of clothing?

First of all, if you are a "jeans and tee-shirt kind of guy," that will have to change if you are going to pack some serious iron.

If you are fairly slim, and IWB might be a good choice. IMO, the very best of the breed is the Bianchi Pistol Pocket with the Milt Sparks Summer Special running it a close second. Another outstanding choice would be a Simply Rugged CID Holster.

I will warn you, if you are a big guy, an Iwb Holster will be very uncomfortable. I haven't been able to wear one in comfort for many years.

Some folks really like shoulder holsters. But i must confess that in over 30 years of searching, I've yet to find one that is both comfortable and good at concealment. I won't suggest any particular models, but i will make a use suggestion. If you find a comfortable Shoulder Holster, buy yourself some Western-style shirts with the snap closure, buy them a couple of sizes larger than you need. Then wear the shirt over your shoulder holster. Ripping open the snaps is easier and faster than riping buttons off.

By preference, I carry in a strong-Side Holster, A good high-riding holster will help with concealment. When packing a M-1911, I tend to go minimal. Most of the time i use a Tex Shoemaker Belt-Slide Holster, this type of holster is made by an number of companies. Again Simply Rugged produces an excellent design called The Cuda for semi-autos.

it really doesn't make a lot of difference what any of us suggest. if you are like most gun cranks you will end up with a box full of holsters you've tried and put aide over the next few decades. Just keep trying until you find the holster that fills your needs.

One more comment on concealment leather. I don't like safety straps or even thumb-breaks on a concealment holster. A well made and properly fitting holster will hold your pistol in place while doing cartwheels. Your cover garment will slow your draw enough, you don't need the add millisecondsnds needed to clear a safety strap.

Now that the topic of gunleather is finished, lets talk about important stuff. How to conceal a handgun.

i don't know where you live so I don't know what the weather is like. Evn so, I'd wager you'd look odd wearing a jacket in July,

Cold weather doesn't offer a great challenge to concealment. In my heavy winter coat, i could stick a Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine in my belt without attracting too much attention. Summer is a different story.

You are going to have to make one of two choices: #1 - give up your Commander and carry a pocket pistol or revolver. #2 - Give up your belovedend tee-shirts.

If you select option #1 I highly recommend one of the Smith 7 WEsson Bodyguard Series (Models 49,,638, or 649) or one of the Centennial Series (Models 40,42, 442 or 640). The Bodyguards have a shrouded hammer, while the Centennials are true hammerless double-action only revolvers. Both the Bodyguards and Centennials offer a smooth snag-free draw from the pocket and both may be fired from inside a pocket. I don't have much confidence in small pocket semi-autos.

For option #2 you will have to change the way you dress. If you wear your jeans skin-tight, you will have to buy some large enough for both you and an inside the waistband holster if you want any comfort. And you will need a cover garment. Sure you can leave a plain old work shirt or western shirt untucked, but it looks sloppy. Buy some shirts that are loose fitting and designed to be untucked. Guyabera shirts are the pistol packer's dream. They look good drape well, and hang long enough to conceal even a 7.5" Peacemaker. The baggy beach shirts are also good for concealment but they tend to be shorter than the Guyaberas. Buy your shirts a size or two larger than you ordinarily would, you don't want your pistol to print through a tight shirt.

With cover garments out of the way that leaves how you move. Rule # 1 - Don't be constantly pulling down your shirt, that is a dead giveaway!

Never reach for something on the top-shelf with your gun-hand. It will cause your cover garment to ride up exposing your pistol.

Never bend over to pick things up from the floor or a low shelf. it will cause your pistol to be exposed. Kneel on one knee, with the knee of your gun-side on the floor.

Don't just plop down into a seat, especially if it has a hard back. Sit gently and carefully. Don't ask how I know that the loud "THUNK!!" of a gun butt hitting the back of a plastic bench will silence a hamburger joint full of noisy kids.

Duty Holster

I remember looking at the "old guys" at the office when I first became a cop. They would come to work with the uniform wrinkled, an old revolver strapped to their hip that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a year, no vest with a daily agenda of how little can I do and where am I going to eat lunch. We called those guys "ROD", or retired on duty. I told myself I would never become one of them.

But after years and years of seeing what we see, children neglected and abused, drug dealers and habitual drunk drivers getting off on light sentences over and over, the bull crap of political red tape and favoritism within the department, I started to realize how those "ROD" guys became the way they were.

But then, something inside of me told me that staying on top of my game would have to be a choice, even a fight not to morph into an unproductive officer. So on those days when I wanted to throw in the towel, I find myself making little choices to keep my mind and body in the best shape to be an effective cop.

What motivates me now is that I don't want the young, gung ho officers looking at me and thinking the same thing I thought so many years ago about the old guys.

An older, more experienced cop that stays on top of his game has the ability to influence and set an example to the young guys. A 40 something cop with 20 years on the job that comes to work in good physical shape, with a crisp uniform, eager to help people and eager to do his job will set an example to those younger officers.

I'm not saying as a veteran cop you don't get sick and tired of the BS. What I am saying is use your maturity as a cop and hide those feelings from the younger guys. Then you and your best bud that has just as much experience can get away alone and bitch about things in private.

Remember always that someone's perception is their reality. As a veteran officer, is it not only your duty to serve and protect, but it is also your duty to be an example to the next generation of officers. And who knows, 10 years from now, when those rookies have some experience, they will sit around and tell war stories about you, and remember you as "Officer so and so, that old guy on our shift that really knew how to be a great cop and taught us everything we know".

The example you set is how you will be remembered. Young officers look to you just like a child looks up to their parents, even if they don't say it to your face. You control your legacy as an officer.

As for me, I have no intention of being remembered as "Retired on Duty". So if you'll excuse me, I need to go find me a criminal to put in jail today.
